COLUMN: Last call to apply for House internship
With the Oct. 31 deadline quickly approaching, now is the time for Hoosier students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program and secure a spot for the 2027 legislative session. This paid internship offers a chance to gain hands-on experience at the Statehouse while building skills and connections for future careers.
As your state representative, I know how much work goes into serving Hoosiers and developing policies that support communities across Indiana. Interning at the Statehouse gives students a firsthand look at that process and the opportunity to contribute to the work of the General Assembly.
The paid, full-time internship runs from January through April during the legislative session. Interns work Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis, gaining practical experience while working alongside legislators and experienced staff.
Students can apply for positions in legislative operations, policy and communications, allowing them to explore different career paths and develop skills they can carry far into the future. The program also provides opportunities to connect with state agencies, private sector organizations and Indiana civic leaders through networking events, professional development and a weekly speaker series.
This experience can be valuable for students pursuing careers in government, law, public relations, business and many other fields. Whether students are still exploring their interests or preparing to enter the workforce, this internship offers a chance to build professional connections and better understand how decisions are made at the state level.
I encourage college students, recent graduates and graduate or law students from House District 51 and across Indiana to consider applying. Working at the Statehouse is a unique opportunity to learn, grow professionally and make connections that can benefit you long after the legislative session ends.
Applications are due Oct. 31. Students can learn more about available positions and apply online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship.
